The piano solo in this tune is a sweet demonstration of the Buddhist expression, "Not knowing is the most intimate." In the studio, John R. Burr recorded a perfect solo right off the bat, but I was after something more interesting than perfection, so I
asked him to do it again, this time using only one finger. A pianist usually plays with ten fingers. By limiting John to just one, I invited in that which we normally try to keep out: awkwardness, tentativeness, not-knowing...
John's a master musician. By this I mean that he has found ways to relax into not-knowing. This is audible in his one-finger solo at 1:20 here:
